The Al Sigl Center targeted Building 10, an abandoned power plant on the former Rochester Psychiatric Center campus, for adaptive reuse. The proposed tenant, ARC of Monroe, required relocation of administrative offices and expansion of their humanities program. At the request of the donor, the program also included the relocation of a wood framed house from another part of the site.
Our team defined a new entry for the buildings with a courtyard and entry pavilion for Building 10. This entry addressed both building and parking accessibility concerns. To accommodate the user’s space needs, a new floor was added to Building 10 with offices that are open to the original steel trusses. Exterior restoration included masonry cleaning, new roofing, and new windows.
