Rochester Institute of Technology, Rochester, NY
The Rochester Institute of Technology required more space to accommodate the growing College of Health Sciences and Technology. The project consists of approximately 30,000 SF of existing space to be renovated with an additional 15,000 SF of new space. The addition will provide a new identity for CHST to the north edge of the campus.
The building will house state-of-the art lecture rooms, clinical-office simulation spaces, high-tech critical care simulation and clinical research space for the college. The new facility will also include a primary care clinic space and psychology clinic on the first level.
A portion of the renovated space was in an existing two story high bay (that used to hold a large printing press). A floor was added to create much needed program space. Openings in the floor along with a large atrium space were created to allow visual connections between levels.
The existing block veneer building was clad with a new brick and glass skin extending around the new addition to give the college a playful and light filled façade. A Large ‘scoop’ feature at the entry gives the College the much needed identity piece they requested as one of their primary goals from the very start of the project.
Estimated Project completion is May 2015
The University is seeking LEED Silver for this project
