HBT Architects was hired to design a light renovation to the main floor area of the Wallace Center Library. The project goal was to upgrade finishes and furniture to present a more appealing overall entry experience and to reorganize the main student areas, leaving operational areas intact. The student spaces were designed to match the key tenants of RIT and its library: Discovery, Technology, Scholarship and Community.
Our design solution involved the use of simple identification elements, colored coded to the signage and finishes in each specific area. This simple approach provides organization and identity for the large open spaces. Student reviews of the renovated spaces have been evident in the rising number of visits to the facility and length of stay.
