Wood Library

Canandaigua, NY

A planning process begun in 2005, established three major goals for Wood Library to meet the needs of the Canandaigua community. These included larger, distinctive spaces for the Children’s Library and for Young Adults. A large meeting space for community uses, and a new, welcoming entry. Phase one of the project was completed in 2011 and included the complete renovation of the existing, historically significant building. Services for this phase included the design of interior and exterior modifications as well as utility upgrades. Phase two is a historically appropriate addition of 5,000 square feet. This three-story addition includes a new main entry, circulation desk, and meeting room for 100. Other program areas are expanded and improved in both the new construction and renovation of the existing building.

Adapting an existing historic community library to become a “product of its day”.

I couldn’t be happier with our gorgeous new building addition. the HBT team were there every step of the way, guiding us through the detailed process and helping with the decision-making. They transformed Wood Library into a modern building but still preserved the historic Main Street charm. We receive daily compliments on our new look
